'Seaside Home' Book Giveaway - Now Closed!

So whilst I was away last week, a very exciting parcel arrived for me. It's been something that's been in the pipeline for over 18 months!

Way back in 2010, I was asked to contribute a project to a new seaside sewing book called 'Seaside Home', part of the Design Collective series by Stash Books. My project was to be my Beach Hut cushion (or 'pillow' as it's called in the States!) And finally... after all these month, the book has been published!

I am really quite excited to be part of this book, especially as it is such a lovely book! To be honest, I still am excited whenever and wherever I see my work in print, whether it is for my textiles work or magazine commissions, I don't think it will ever grow old! I would love to write and design my own  sewing/ craft book one day too...

Anyway there are 25 sewing and craft projects in the book, all with a seaside theme, including quilts, cushions, bags, and garlands just to name a few. All the projects are step by step with clear illustrations, beautifully styled photos and templates so it is perfect for both experienced sewers and beginners too, it really is a lovely book.

Anyway here's the best part... I am giving away a copy of the book to one lucky reader of my blog!

All you have to do is leave me a comment on this post telling me what you love most above the seaside. You don't have to be a follower of my blog but I would love it if you were!

For a second entry, you can blog about my giveaway. Feel free to use the top image if you want, and please link back to this post and leave me a second comment to let me know you've mentioned it!

The giveaway is open internationally, and will end in one weeks time on Easter Monday, 9th April, 7.00pm UK time.

Thanks so much for entering and good luck!

p.s If you can't wait and want to buy your own copy of Seaside Home, you can find it here (US readers) and here (UK readers) xxx

I love sitting on the sand at the water's edge, letting the little ripples run over my toes. Mind you, it's got to be a lovely sunny day and the right sort of sand :)

Lovely childhood memories of the seaside - I was lucky enough to have grandparents who lived a few miles from the coast.

Congratulations on the new new book, it looks fantastic. I am very lucky to live near the sea and the beach is my favourite place in the world, whatever the weather! A brisk walk on a chilly morning followed by a flask of steaming coffee is my idea of bloss. It really does clear the cobwebs!

Congratulations Jenny, what a beautiful book to be a part of!!
Your cushion is, as always, gorgeous. :)
What I really love about the seaside is beach combing! Give me a bag or a bucket and could walk for hours collecting stuff. I especially love sea glass!
Happy new week,

Wow the book looks amazing! Congrats on getting published! My fav thing about the seaside is collecting seaglass, shells & driftwood! But to be honest I love everything about the seaside! One day I dream of living by the sea & getting to spend hours walking on the beach & having BBQs (perhaps I need to move to Australia!). Cx

Emily Robson said...

I love looking out over the sea and feeling amazed at the power and beauty of the ocean. I also love the fun of seaside towns - it is my dream to have a beach hut one day and make it into a craft room/beach room/changing room/personal cafe!

Laura said...

Wow, congratulations! It must be so exciting to see your work in a book!
My favourite thing about the seaside is really difficult to choose - I just love the whole atmosphere of the beach at different times of year. But I think possibly my favourite is going to the beach in the winter when no one else is around and watching the wind whip up the waves. It just takes my breath away.

Pipany said...

Oh well done Jenny! How exciting it must be to see your work in print and it is a truly lobvely looking book.

As for the seaside - what don't I love about it? I love sailing in little Mermaid on it; splashing in the icy waves of the Cornish North coast seas or lying on my back with the sun on my face in the calmer south Cornish waves; the sound of it whether rough or gentle; the colours...I could go on but won't!

Have a great week lovely lady xx

what a lovely book!

I live by the sea and never go there in the summer, too many people!

I love to walk along the beach in the winter just after bad weather, when the sky is dramatic, the waves are choppy and there's no-one around!

Annie Cholewa said...

Hi Jenny :D Please don't worry about entering me into the draw - my sewing machine has just given up the ghost and it's probably going to be a while before I get another - I just wanted to say 'how exciting!' :D

I'm a seaside in winter girl ... crashing waves, howling winds and salty chips eaten with gloved hands while sitting in promenade shelters and watching the seagulls attempt to stay airborne ... the best times :D

Sandies' Patch said...

Congratulations on being 'published'!
But, Jenny, what are you waiting for? Go and do your own book girl!
(Please!).
What do I like most about the Seaside? KNOWING that one day I will live near the Sea! Then there are...sand between your toes, paddling and if the water gets warm enough, swimming, wave watching, just everything really!

Hugs,

Sandie xx

What a great book to be part of! Seaside themes never go out of fashion and there's something so refreshing when you walk into a seaside home. Lots of inspiration in this book for a sewing novice like me! The seaside is such a creative place to be :)

Well done on having your work in such a lovely book....clever you! I would love to be entered into your giveaway thanks!

I am lucky enough to live right on the coast so get to see, smell and hear it lots. My favourite thing, although it's hard to pick, is when it is the end of a day you sit and listen to the water pull back over the pebbles, before it rushes forward again in the next wave, it's a sound like no other....positively blissful!

alexa said...

It'd be tough to pick one thing that I love most about the seaside. Here are some of the things I think of...

I love how I can smell the sea before I even see it. As if it's calling to me; waiting for me. I love searching along the shore for shells and smooth rocks. And of course, chasing the gulls and seabirds.

My earliest memory of the ocean is when I was a child, running down the sand and into the salt water with my sisters. Fully clothed. At night. With my parents laughing far behind. I love how the sea can make anyone a child again.

Kasia said...

I love sunsets at the seaside and long walks up the beach. I also love seeing how happy my dogs get when they run around in the water.

Congratulations on being in such an amazing book

Andrea said...

Well Done Jenny, The book looks fantastic, you must be so proud!
aS I live by the sea I love everything about the Seaside, but if I had to pick one thing it would be the smell of the sea and the sound of the crashing waves.
I would love to enter the give away too.

How exciting having your work in an actual book! Well done :)

I love the SOUNDS of the seaside - the waves, the seaguls, children playing....aaaah!

Oooh ooh oooh loving this giveaway!! Ok my fav thing is searching for nice shells - we live near the beach and all the shells that wash up on our beach are abit rubbish - if I find a good one half buried in the sand I get so excited pull it out and the other half is broken! doh :( I need to get away to a nice exotic place to collect some mega shells! I also make a treasure map with my miss 3 so we can hunt for hidden treasure - normally a broken shell :p
Kirsty xx
ps The 2 words I have to read to prove im not a robot are the most difficult 2 words I have ever seen so I think if I pass this test i totally deserve to win the giveaway :p
Update: I didnt get the 2 words so maybe i dont deserve to win afterall !! attempt number 2 coming up :p

congrats on the book, it looks fabulous.

what i like most about the seaside is just the beauty and power of nature, whether it's looking for shells or beautiful stones, rockpooling in all weathers or watching a raging storm. The sea has so many moods and can never entirely be tamed by humans, i love that and love to feel a tiny part of it xx

charliesewsstuff said...

I love everything about the seaside, so much so it's where I am choosing to have my hen, unfortunately I live the furthest point from the sea in the UK, but visiting makes each time more like an adventure!

I love fresh fish and chips, there's really nothing like it, I love the way you can sink into a deckchair and really feels like no other chair in the world and enjoy the salty sea breeze on your lips and face. I love ice cream cones with raspberry sauce and building amazing sandcastles with moats then putting a flag in the top to declare 'this sand is mine'.

I especially love the beach when its colder, there's no one around and you can wrap up in a lovely thick coat and scarf and have the nicest stroll in the world.

I wish I lived nearer the sea...

I think i took it for granted for years but after spending 3 years in the city i gained a whole new appreciation for it. I feel sorry for city folks who only get to got to the seaside now and then.

I have never actually been to the seaside, but I have been to Lake Superior (Minnesota, USA) which is more of a sea versus a lake. That is my favorite place to go for vacations. I love watching the waves ripple back and forth, watching the waves leave ripples in the sand, wading out in the FREEZING water to see how far the sandbar lasts, watching the blue of the water fade into the blue of the sky, watching sailboats and big barges on the water, and of course- kayaking. So fun. I miss it sooo much.

Congratulations on getting your design included in the book. How exciting! :D

I do love the seaside, I've always lived by it, but I hate going to the beach! The sand is grainy and itchy when it gets stuck in towels and clothes and shoes, and pebbles are even worse, so hard and lumpy and they get so hot in the summer! Then theres the chip pinching seagulls who not only try to snatch your icecream, but half your arm with it, the screaming children, the smell of salt and fish and wet dog, who then comes and shakes all that sea water off (usually over me, along with the frisbee or football that always tends to come and hit me on the head!) Oh and don't forget the people in skimpy bathing suits who really shouldnt be wearing such things, and there is never a space for you to enjoy, its always so cramped in the summer you feel like beached sardines! And don't get me started on actually going IN the water! Slimy stinky seaweed, lumpy things on the sea floor that you aren't too sure you ought to be treading on, it is always far too chilly, the salt water playing havok with hair, the tight, dry skin when you are dry, and accentially intaking of the water makes me feel queasy - especially if there are children or suspicious looking people or warmer patches of water about!
But... From a safe distance, it is beautiful! So I think i'd have to say, my favourite thing about the seaside, is the view, the rows of beach huts, the ever changing blues and greens of the water, the patchwork of beach towels - just don't take me anywhere near it!

Anonymous said...

I love the irony of the sea and the juxtaposition of the man-made versus the natural. We think we can protect our shoreline and defend it from the sea by building defences made from natural objects such as rock and wood.

Yet stroll along any beach and it is obvious that nature is king as the sea, the sand, the elements weave their way around and through everything we try to put in its way. Its footprints are everywhere, indelibly tattooed into an ever shifting shoreline, long after our own footprints have been painted out by the tide. Judith Hart judi.blu@ntlworld.com

most of all I love to collect sea shells and smooth pieces of glass, this is my meditation :)

I've never lived near the ocean and haven't spent much time there. It is a place of awe and wonder for me. I think the movement of the waves is what I find most wondrous.

Congratulations on being published in the book!

I have a thing about waves. I could sit all day watching them come in; I find it so calming. I also love to walk along the beach staring into the sand looking for treasures.

Hello,

I stumbled upon your blog for the first time yesterday and spent a happy 40 minutes there admiring all your creations. I've only recently got into free motion embroidery so it was a very lucky find.

What I love most about the sea is the sounds that it makes - rhythmic, regular and never ending. You don't get that sound anywhere else. The smell too.

Thanks for your blog and for the giveaway. Good luck to everyone!

What is not to love about the seaside? There is a fish and chip restaurant by the sea in torcross, Devon which is one of my favourite places to be in the world!

Hi Jenny,

Congratulations on having your work published in this lovely looking book, how exciting for you. It is well deserved as your work is simply gorgeous :) As a child, I spent every Summer in our caravan in Norfolk. I love nothing more than taking a long walk along the beach and hearing the waves rolling in from the sea, it is such a calming sound.

Have a lovely Easter.

What I love about the seaside is that it has an amazing ability to draw people to it & allow them all to enjoy its magic in the way that pleases them most. Congrats on book.

Congratulations on the book, looks great. I love taking my children to the seaside and watching them trying to out run the sea, then listening to their squeals of delight when it catches them! Never tire of it!

This looks like a beautiful book with lots of inspiring projects to tackle. I too have been obsessed with the seaside of late I think it was the nice weather making me think of holidays by the sea. I love the smell of the seaside and the sound of the waves especially the clattering of the stones as the sea runs away again, picnicking on the beach and walking on the sand where no one has walked and body-boarding.

I go to university in scarborough. I love liking there. Its so beautiful, especially early morning runs on the beach, the summer when it's warm, picnics. I love the seaside attractions and seeing families enjoying their holidays. It makes me feel alive to stand on the rocks hearing the waves crashing below me. I love everything about it, even if the occasional seagull sits outside my window tapping to get in!! xx

I love the sound and the smell of the sea - just standing with my eyes closed, smelling the sea and hearing the waves lapping on the shore - heaven!

I love the seaside in the winter when there's no one there and the wind is blowing so hard you can hardly walk. It makes you feel so alive as you watch huge waves crashing over the rocks.

How exciting to be published!

I love the feeling of waves hitting me in the sea as it reminds me of when my daddy used to take me into the sea when I was a little girl and hold my hand real tight so I didn't disappear with the waves :)
