Studio

I work from my home studio, and I know I am very lucky to be able to have such a space. I wanted to make it a bright, colourful and inspirational space, somwhere that I would want to come and work every day.

I have lots of basic white Ikea shelving on which I store my fabrics, yarn, ribbons, papers and buttons...

...and I painted the main wall behind my sewing table turquoise (which is my favourite colour!) Up until this year, we've always lived in rented properties where I wasn't allowed to get the paintbrush out - so it was the first thing we did when we moved in here and I love it!! The lovely paper heart bunting is from The Green Gal.

My sewing threads are kept in various boxes and jars around the room, but the ones I use most are displayed within easy reach in a vintage printer's press tray behind my sewing machine. They quite often end up in a big pile on my table whilst I work but I do try and put them back at the end of the day (most of the time!)

I've used lots of cheap clear plastic baskets from Tescos to store smaller bits of fabric as I like the way that you can see what's in them at a glance, and they add some colour to the shelves! I also have lots of those plastic recylced jumbo storage bags around which house all manner of things! You may notice I love colour and pattern, and to have all my materials on display all around me is great. I like to change things around every so often so it doesn't get too samey. Funnily enough though the rest of the house is pretty neutrally decorated really, so this is where I come for my colour fix!

I will sometime take a picture of the other sides of the room too, which is where I store all the boring things - jiffy bags, envelopes, all my accounts and order folders, the iron, tissue paper, bolts of fabric etc. It is a bit of a mess at the moment if I'm honest and not quite so pretty but obviously that side of things is essential to running a small business too!
